5 Minutes with Gidania Wong (@giisgaga )

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I’m Gidania, an entrepreneur with a boutique PR & Events consultancy, The Media Ministry; and a digital magazine on motherhood – Mummyfique. I’ve got 2 kids aged 2 and 5 and I am passionate about living life to the fullest. In my spare time, I enjoy yoga and pilates and doing volunteer work. I’m also forever hoping to lead a healthier and fitter life. 😊
Covid 19 has taught me that I am not too bad at being a homecook and a baker so I’m glad that I discovered new “talents” of mine. 
During CB, I also started SG Mummies United – a blessings group for needy mums to request for items they may need and for others to donate their preloved essentials.


2. What is your wellness/fitness routine? 

Admittedly, I’m not super fit. Im still struggling to maintain a disciplined routine between work, family and fitness. I do try to practise yoga 2-3 times a week and squeeze in some pilates reformer sessions when I can. Once a week I cycle with my son around our estate too.


3. Where is your favourite travel destination? 

I thoroughly enjoyed Mykonos, Santorini, Cappedocia and Maldives when I was there. Those were some of my favourite destinations with many good memories made. Paris is always a good idea, it’s special for my husband and I and always wonderful when we’re there. 
I need a good mix of sightseeing, good food, shopping and fun in the sun when I travel. Depending on what I’m feeling at the moment, sometimes it’s the buzz of the cities that I need (and the latest bags!) and sometimes it’s the calm and sereneness of island life that I miss. If my kids come along, I am less adventurous and Japan or Korea is more ideal.


4. What are the places or retreats you would recommend to people for a travel wellness experience?

I would say Bali has it all. I would love to grab my sister and there for a digital detox when we can finally travel for leisure again.


5. Why do you think it’s important to prioritise your health and wellbeing and how do you keep this at the forefront when life starts to become overwhelming? 

As cliché as it sounds, health is wealth and this is especially more evident as we get older or have kids as we start to want more time with the kids and want to make sure we have the energy to be around them. I am now more mindful of what my family and I eat. I believe in eating everything in moderation but we can certainly limit our junk food intake. It’s easy for work to take centrestage, especially in these trying times when we’re all stressing over businesses but I’ve since learnt that it is vital to keep anxiety and stress at bay by relaxing. I take a long shower to give me more clarity over tough situations and help me think better, then I zone out gaming and sipping some hot tea. It’s important to identify your triggers and work around them.

6. Everyone’s idea of self-care is different, please tell us about yours? 

To me, self-care is any activity I do in order to take care of my mental, emotional, and physical health. Although it’s a simple concept in theory, it’s something we very often overlook. It’s about being kind to yourself and making sure that you’re taking care of yourself. I lead a hectic life trying to manage 2 businesses, plus investments and spending time with my kids so relaxing is essential. I’ve my me-time once the kids are in bed and I’m done with my work emails for the day by just enjoying the latest dramas on Netflix. I indulge in a little hair wash at the salon because good hair builds my self esteem and makes me feel more confident! =p I love my sweets but make it a point to consume in small doses to keep my body healthy and I meditate and practise yoga when I’m too stressed out. This year, I’ve also learnt to say no when I’ve got too much on my plate. Again, sounds straightforward enough but it’s not that easy to achieve.

7. What is your personal ethos? 

In a world where you can be anything you want, be kind. Everybody is fighting a battle you don’t know, so always be kinder than necessary. That’s how I live my life and run my businesses.

8. If there is 1 wellness tip you swear by, what would that be? 

I absolutely swear by drinking lots of water. I start the day with 2 glasses of water and I find that it gets my brain and body going for the day. Water is essential to flush out toxins from the body, rehydrates you, improves metabolism and boosts your immunity too. It’s really the simplest and most helpful thing you can do for yourself.
